How To Get Partners To Promote Your Product
This is sort of the sequel to “Sunday Email 39: The Story Of My List”. In that post, I talked about list building and building a relationship - AND also the importance of getting others to promote your product.
For this post, it’ll be short because I’ll just get right to the point of this tactic.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have a list, you can still get other partners to promote your product.
This is how you do it - you buy ezine ads.
Let’s say I’m approaching Marketer A. I’ll tell him that I can promote his product to an internet marketing list (an example if you’re in the internet marketing niche) and in return, I would appreciate if he can reciprocate a promotion for me.
Once he agreed, I’ll tell him the date that I’ll promote.
Once finalized, go and hunt down for an ezine that sell solo ad. There are plenty of them out there, if you have a hard time to find (or just want to save a lot of time), just get your ezine directorty subscription at www.direzines.com. Besides, it’s a good idea to signup if you’re newbie because it teaches about buying ezine ads.
Now you got your ‘list’.
Pretty simple, wasn’t it?
“But Patric, I don’t have money to buy ezine ad.”
I understand I don’t expect you to buy it right away if you don’t have money.
So start saving up.
Dude, there are two ways to build an internet business (YOU MUST GET THIS INTO YOUR HEAD ONCE AND FOR ALL) - you either use time or money. I’m giving you a shortcut here, which means, you don’t use time that much anymore. If you don’t want to use time OR money, what are you going to use? A special ‘red button’ you’ve bought online that promises to money each time you press it? Come on.
“But if I’m buying an ezine ad, why wouldn’t I send traffic to my own product instead?”
Good question.
I’ll tell you why you want to promote others- because your own product will probably won’t convert as good as your joint venture partner’s proven salesletter if your name and product are new. Now of course, if you’re already a big time guru, then it’s a different story.
Secondly, you make money from two sources – as an affiliate promoting your partner’s product and your own product sales from your partner’s promotion. This way, it’s hard for you not to recoup back your investment because you’ll be really unlucky if both promotions bombed. We call this, ‘diversifying your risk’.
And third, you’re leveraging on other people’s list to promote. Let me explain - if you keep on doing these kinds of swaps and hammer your list all the time, you’ll kill it.
But the most important reason is to build relationship and gain publicity. If Marketer A is happy with your cross promotion, most likely you’ll both start a good business relationship. This leads to more things in the future, including getting him to recommend you to others.
And when other marketers in your circle see Marketer A promotes your stuff, it’s easier for you to approach them (also, note that you’ll now start growing your list so it’s relatively easier to ‘talk’ with others).
See, it’s all about thinking creative and not letting your own circumstances decide whether you can sell your own product or build a list. If you are new and haven’t gotten a copy of The Chan Do Internet Success System Version 2009, I promise you that you’ll discover some things that you’ll never thought of (like the Affiliate Tollgate Strategy).

Hello Patric,
I totally agree with you…
Marketing is not a Magic-button like someone says, but you need to invest something if you desire to obtain something (simple 50/50 rule).
Personally, I think that offer valuable content is one of the best way to get something back ( offer what you really know, your knowledge). Exactly like your blog news, you offer excellent info and you get profits back.
That is SO clever it’s almost devious!
I’ve never heard of this tactic but it sure looks like it would work well…
Thanks Patric
Hi Patric. You have some good info there. I’m really new in this internet marketing thing and am slowly finding my way through. Will keep tuning in to your tips and ideas.
Alex,
Hahaha

Do ads ever run 2 products? In other words the advert you buy plugs both of you?
Thanks for the great post, Patric.. As usual, this content alone can change my marketing strategy..:)

Hi Patric,
That sounds like a great technique – buying ezine ads to JV. Would try it out on ezine ads myself soon and see how is it going to be like.
Nowadays, I usually swap promotions by using my Twitter tweets too, especially when I’m in a niche with a small list. So I would actually tweet to my 26000+ followers..
Great share Patric!

Hi, Patric
Thanks again for the post. Buying ads for others and start to build up relationship with the marketers, a new tactic to me. I’ll try this out very soon.
Wish you good day!
Looking forward your email.

Hi Patrick,
Can you please explain to “non-techie” how buying Ezine-ad works? I would really appreciate it because I just purchased a very expensive website and don’t have any traffic for it.
Cheers,
Jay
Hey Patrick,
That’s a simple but very clever concept. Kudos on some great out of the box thinking!
Best,
Dave.
Thanks for all of the comments!
Here are some quick answers to 2 questions from the comments:
To Kirt:
If you buy a solo ad, it’ll only be your own stuff. When you promote, you’ll normally just promote a single product for best result.
To Jay Rossi,
Ezine advertising is pretty straight forward – you find the newsletter that sell ads in them and subscribe. If you feel that this is a good newsletter and you know the numbers (like clickthrough, size list and frequency of mailing), you can consider buying an ad slot there. I can’t really go into the nitty gritty stuff as I don’t have a course on this topic. But I believe that if you get a susbcription with http://www.direzines.com, it comes with trainings too.
Thanks everyone,

Hi Patric
Thanks. I am learning a lot, which I am putting to use. Thanks again.
Best wishes. Jacqui
I have not tried doing it this way, sure am going to give it a go. Has certainly worked well for you. Do understand promoting just one product, sure hate the emails that go on and on and on, promoting numerous items. Short and to the point seems as though it would get read more. Thanks
Hello Patric,
Yes, this is a good strategy if your partner is established. But if the person who replies to your ezine ad is in the same boat as you, then you’re both stuffed. Or maybe an established marketer will want to see your site, only to discover that you’re a rank amateur. Hmmm…..
So, if you’ve no list, but by chance happen to be a very good copy writer then fine. If your ‘patsy’ doesn’t ask to see your site(s) then you’ve probably got someone mediocre. Well, at least there will be a list. Hmmm…
Best,
Anthony
