To make sure you won’t miss any future issue, subscriber for free at www.sundayemail.com. You know– sometimes my Sunday Emails can be harsh. But come on, they’re my rants. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children.

———————————————————–

Today’s Sunday Email is about ‘waking you up’.

Recently, I saw a forum posted by a guy asking who the 5 most respected internet marketers (aka Gurus) are. Personally, I have my own list of those who I respect but when I saw the names in the post, I automatically knew why these people are following Gurus blindly.

I’m not sure whether I should say this to you because it’ll splinter your original perception on these gurus – most of them don’t know INTERNET MARKETING. They’re categorized as how successfully or respected based on how much money they make by selling their internet marketing widgets.

And here comes the drumroll…

The only thing they have is their mailing lists in the internet marketing niche. Because with that, not only that they can continue to make money here, but it gives them the leverage to joint venture with others.

Dude, wake up for a while.

How can an internet marketer’s success be categorized based on if he (or she) has a list or not? That’s bizarre.

Ponder on that fact for a few seconds… so it means that any newbie can be a guru as long as he has a huge list and can get people to buy stuff by throwing gazillion of bonuses or something? Hmm.

It’s like saying the best taste burger in town must belongs to the restaurant that has the most patrons.

Of course this rant is a little bit “expanded”. Yes, they might have some marketing skill and if they do, it’s mainly how to build a list very well (which I’ll give you an idea shortly) and selling their widgets.

You see, the fact is, they just can’t survive OUT of the internet marketing (IM) niche. They’ll say they want to go into a different niche market, build a Facebook or something, but ultimately, you’ll see them back in this niche. What’s annoying is, saying that as an excuse to sell their widgets and we supported them. It’s so obvious they’re surviving based on their IM list and IM promotion buddies. You rub my shoulder, I rub your shoulder… but who’s rubbing your shoulder?

Yes, some internet marketers do have internet businesses OUTSIDE of the internet marketing niche, that’s why they have my respect for them.

Why do I rant about this, since I build mailing list in the internet marketing niche and also do joint ventures? Hey, there’s nothing to hide that I’m marketing in the IM niche. If you don’t like that fact, I’m sorry. Then, you should subscribe to my self improvement list that has nothing to do with IM.

Going back to the reason of today’s rant, it’s because the wrong Guru idolization has to stop. It clouds your mind. Most of the time, whenever a Guru launch some stuff, it sells well because of the bonuses, joint venture promotions and all kinds of bells and whistles but the product probably doesn’t work or meet half of its claim. Why? Because slimy Gurus do not DO what are taught in the product. Gotcha.

The second reason why I wrote this post is because I want you to help you by informing you the truth of how to make money online — I’ve already spelled it out so clearly to you where the money is.

Speaking of building a list through joint ventures, you don’t need to just think of the Gurus for promotions. Let me explain in one sentence – the IM niche is SUPER huge. There are thousands of marketers out there who you can be doing JVs with; why in the world are you so fixate about one particular Guru to promote your stuff?

Yeah, I know the advantages of how it can gives you a lot of publicity, social proof and all those stuff you’ve been taught in those ebooks… but… if you must treat this Guru like a royal or something, wouldn’t it be better to just work with others who are more friendly, respectful and receptive?

To elaborate a point, I’ve just joined Safe Swaps this month and I’m already getting proposals to swap every week… without even lifting a finger. There are just so many marketers out there, wanting and willingly to work with you. By the way, don’t join if you don’t have a list to begin with you, you can’t swap if you have nothing to swap yet.

I wish I have something to sell to you related to list building. But not today, maybe some other days.

I hope today’s post shed some light about thinking again of your favourite Gurus. If you want to defend them and appear like a shining knight riding on a white horse, let me know by leaving your comment – afterall, this is the Internet with no boundaries. I promise not to take it personally.

Also, free to leave your comment below (I read all of them personally) if you like what you read or find value in it.

You “Chan” Do It!

You know– sometimes my Sunday Emails can be harsh. Cuts through like a ninja’s blade. But come on, they’re my rants. If I want to keep everyone happy and write about the colorful rainbow, birds chirping, flowers blooming, etc then I should just opens up a nursery home and take care of children.

So if you can relate to what I wrote when reading it– good because I know it had just served the purpose of helping people.

Re: The Truth About Getting Joint Ventures

Let’s say you’re going (or about to go) through a course about how to get joint venture partners (JV). It will basically tells you that you need to have an awesome product, an amazing offer, super high converting salesletter, lucrative commission, yada, yada, yada to get JV partners.

Those are all true but most people still don’t get it – they missed the X-factor.

Instead of me writing my own rant today, I’m just going to share with you this video by my friend, Tellman Knudson who happened to be a really smart internet marketer. You’ll laugh watching this video. AND you’ll learn the most valuable business lesson about JV.

(Although the video does not address about JV specifically, but you’ll know what I mean after watching.)

For this post, it’ll be short because I’ll just get right to the point of this tactic.

If you’re just starting out and don’t have a list, you can still get other partners to promote your product.

This is how you do it - you buy ezine ads.

Let’s say I’m approaching Marketer A. I’ll tell him that I can promote his product to an internet marketing list (an example if you’re in the internet marketing niche) and in return, I would appreciate if he can reciprocate a promotion for me.

Once he agreed, I’ll tell him the date that I’ll promote.

Once finalized, go and hunt down for an ezine that sell solo ad. There are plenty of them out there, if you have a hard time to find (or just want to save a lot of time), just get your ezine directorty subscription at www.direzines.com. Besides, it’s a good idea to signup if you’re newbie because it teaches about buying ezine ads.

Now you got your ‘list’.

Pretty simple, wasn’t it?

“But Patric, I don’t have money to buy ezine ad.”

I understand I don’t expect you to buy it right away if you don’t have money.

So start saving up.

Dude, there are two ways to build an internet business (YOU MUST GET THIS INTO YOUR HEAD ONCE AND FOR ALL) - you either use time or money. I’m giving you a shortcut here, which means, you don’t use time that much anymore. If you don’t want to use time OR money, what are you going to use? A special ‘red button’ you’ve bought online that promises to money each time you press it? Come on.

“But if I’m buying an ezine ad, why wouldn’t I send traffic to my own product instead?”

Good question.

I’ll tell you why you want to promote others- because your own product will probably won’t convert as good as your joint venture partner’s proven salesletter if your name and product are new. Now of course, if you’re already a big time guru, then it’s a different story.

Secondly, you make money from two sources – as an affiliate promoting your partner’s product and your own product sales from your partner’s promotion. This way, it’s hard for you not to recoup back your investment because you’ll be really unlucky if both promotions bombed. We call this, ‘diversifying your risk’.

And third, you’re leveraging on other people’s list to promote. Let me explain - if you keep on doing these kinds of swaps and hammer your list all the time, you’ll kill it.

But the most important reason is to build relationship and gain publicity. If Marketer A is happy with your cross promotion, most likely you’ll both start a good business relationship. This leads to more things in the future, including getting him to recommend you to others.

And when other marketers in your circle see Marketer A promotes your stuff, it’s easier for you to approach them (also, note that you’ll now start growing your list so it’s relatively easier to ‘talk’ with others).

See, it’s all about thinking creative and not letting your own circumstances decide whether you can sell your own product or build a list. If you are new and haven’t gotten a copy of The Chan Do Internet Success System Version 2009, I promise you that you’ll discover some things that you’ll never thought of (like the Affiliate Tollgate Strategy).

If you’ve find value in what you read today, please leave a Comment or feedback? Needless to say, I will definitely appreciate it because I read all Comments personally and gotten the chance to know you at the same time.

Re: The Story Of My List

In 2003, I discovered the most important thing that I have to do in order to make money online consistently - it’s none other than building a mailing list.

Back then, I was nobody and don’t even have a product of my own. My first product, which is a personal development ebook, was only created in middle of 2004.

Today, I want to share with you the pivotal point of how I get to where I am and I think if you absorb the lessons behind the story, you’ll accelerate your internet success. No kidding.

You see, when I first started out, I don’t know any ‘advance’ tactics or strategies to get traffic.

It all started with an opt-in page.

Not a website or a blog and so on, but just a single page that does nothing else than asking the website visitors to subscribe. That webpage is still active today, eSuccessMastery.com, although the design have changed since the first time it was published.

The way how I built my list at that time was by offering a free ebook for anyone subscribing to my list. Once they subscribed for free, they’ll get my free ebook. Now, this tactic might not be very effective anymore today - remember, this was used 6 YEARS AGO.

But the concept is still evergreen - it might not be an ebook, it could be an audio course or a video tutorial to make the offer more attractive.

Understand this list building mechanism: You will get subscribers if you give a GOOD REASON for your website visitors to subscribe and if it’s totally risk-free (they can unsubscribe anytime they want) for them. That’s it. There’s no real ‘magic’ to list building, the rest are just the elaborations, tactics and technicality. No offer, no opt-in. No opt-in, no list. Got it? Good.

Just think it this way– if you give enough value, people will be willing to ‘trade’ their email for that. But at the same time, you cannot give over-value because it’ll look ‘desperate’ or too-good-to-be-true.

Now, I won’t get into the details of how the opt-page should look like or what is the content of your free gift to be valuable for the trade. You got to do your own reading on copywriting and product creation. I’ve got the Chan Do Internet Success System Version 2009 to show you how to do that and I’m proud to sell you to buy right now because it’s the BEST VALUE course I’ve ever sold, period.

The only missing ingredient to build a list is traffic.

And I’ll tell you how I get my traffic when I first started out in 2003…

My free ebook was distributed for free at www.free-ebooks.net. Not only that, it was on its main page as ‘top download’. This website is ranked on page #1 of Google for the keyword called, ‘free ebook’ and gets traffic from many other sources.

Now, inside my ebook, it has a link back to my opt-in page and many of the readers actually end up going to my webpage to find out more of what I have to offer. Then they subscribe.

I could spend 6 months trying to learn about search engines and still fail miserably. Or I could spend my time to build a relationship. This is why, I’ve published the “The Internet Marketing ‘Secret’ That Gurus Don’t Tell” article the other day to stress the true secret of internet success. My friend, FOCUS ON RELATIONSHIP.

This goes without saying that I’ll be forever grateful to Eva Almeida (owner of free-ebooks.net at that time) for helping me. Today, if she asks any favor from me, I’ll definitely say ‘yes’without even thinking twice (see how relationship takes effect again?). Now, at that time, I could present the best offer possible and she might still say no. This is why it’s critical to build a relationship first before anything else.

I’ve read comments on my blog saying that it’s hard to get joint venture partners to promote their products because they can’t promote the joint partner’s products without having a list.

That’s true.

But I disagree.

Because you’re not thinking creative enough or willing to work harder. I know it sounded harsh and if you feel the pinch, then I think I’ve done my job to wake you up. Stop reading if you don’t like the ‘pinch’ or to face the truth. I couldn’t care less because I want to give my attention on people who have a passion to be successful – they’re much easier to show them how to reach there.

If you don’t have a list, doesn’t that just remind you that you need to build one? Otherwise, you’ll still have this lame reason next year. Note this: Everyone started with NO LIST.

Don’t want to build one YET?

Fine. Then take out some money from your pocket and buy PPC/Google Adwords traffic or newsletter ads (you can find a directory of newsletters that are selling ads everyday at www.direzines.com).

Don’t have the money to buy ads? Well, then start saving your money to invest for your business. Enough said.

Summary - two keys to your internet success, your list and your relationship with other people.

If you’ve find value in what you read today, please leave a Comment or feedback? Needless to say, I will definitely appreciate it because I read all Comments personally and gotten the chance to know you at the same time.

It’s all about the contacts you make.

Trying to make it alone and fighting against the odds is what you’ve been taught, but it’s wrong. You need help. How often do you take the time to build relationships online?

The answer to that question will determine how far you get.

I constantly search out new friends and business associates because I know that there will come a time when I will need or want their help and vice versa.

YOU CANNOT LIVE IN YOUR OWN WORLD.

That’s why over the recent years, you’ve heard a lot of marketers are involved in ‘mastermind groups’. As a matter of fact, one of the marketers I know were able to connect with Richard Branson because of this.

When you actively seek out relationships with others in your market you automatically open yourself up to opportunities that the average businessperson would easily miss because they’re out of the loop.

This also puts me in a position to work with these same marketers on future projects, which is always a good position to be in.

Joint Ventures are extremely easy to get going because I can always contact the people I’ve worked with in the past to do more deals. Having to constantly search out new people to work with costs you time that you could have been using to make money. But of course you need to consistently do this as well.

The right relationships mean more money for you. If you want to have a million-dollar product launch, then you better start spending the time to build the relationship – not just improving your product and salesletter.

At the same time, having contacts just for the sake of having them is worthless. You need to make the *right* contacts. You need to build relationships with people who can help you get to where you want to be.

But… in order to do that you must have something valuable to offer in return. There’s only so much a friend will help you do. You will need to offer a valuable service in return for the one you want from your contact. That’s just the way it works.

If you don’t have the money to get things done then you need to get creative. You don’t have to do everything yourself. Search for people who know how to do what you want done and strike up a conversation with them.

With people, you get to LEVERAGE. Letting other people help you multiply your efforts on any project you create. Never create a project that other people can’t help you promote. It just doesn’t make sense to do everything on your own when 100’s of other people can pour thousands of combined hours into building your business for you.

Have a clear picture in mind ahead of time and incorporate other people and what you need them to do into your overall strategy before you begin. Have a plan to reach your destination and of course, part of your plan should be how you’re going to build the right relationship for your business.

I have relationship with marketers who I know will 99% promote for me and marketer who still haven’t promote for me yet until today. But there are many more other benefits from a relationship than just promoting because a good relationship will refer more contacts for you.

And weird enough, your competitors are the first group of people you want to be in your contact list.

You’ve got to get it out of your head that everyone is your competitor because competition is not really an issue once you understand that if you’re willing to go above and beyond what everyone else is willing to do for their customers, competition is extremely light.

Bottom line: Once you have good contacts in place you can easily get projects off the ground while those who are trying to do everything themselves struggle for months if not years.

What you do is create a PDF report with giveaway rights (and resell rights if you like). If you look around, it wouldn’t be hard to find an existing giveaway promotion. Like this month, I’m participating in 777SelfHelp to build my list.

Once your report is out, other internet marketers pass it along throughout the internet to their lists because you have a good report (make sure the report contains some of the best information you know).

At the end of this report will be a free offer that leads to one of your squeeze pages.

You’ll find you get 20 subs here and 20 subs there. That’s powerful. Because you just take a few hours to write a report, get it in the hands of a few people, and it can spread throughout the net like a virus with no more work on your part.

Another benefit of using viral reports to build your list is that doing this is much like article marketing (except without slaving away to dominate Google). Here’s what I mean: Readers of your report become your subscribers. This is much like a reader of an article becoming your subscriber. The report sells yourself and plants your level of expertise into the reader’s mind. In a way, it pre-sells whatever you’re selling.

Using viral reports to build your list is different than setting up a squeeze page, getting a subscriber, convincing them that you’re credible, then selling to them.

Instead, your report convinces the prospect that you’re credible, then they opt-in on your squeeze page, then they buy. Before they even read your first e-mail, you’ve already built at least some level of trust in you because of the expert information within the report.

If you want to use viral reports to build your list, then simply:

1. Write a short, amazing report with giveaway rights and make sure to put a link to your squeeze page at the end of the report.. Give away your best information so that readers of the report will feel inspired to pass it on (give away the type of secrets you only discover in high dollar courses).

2. Get the report into the hands of your current subscribers/JV partners/others and watch it go viral.

If you want to make it easier to be spread, then just allow your affiliates and JV partners to brand the report with their affiliate link to your product.

How To Write Your Report In 24 Hours Or Less?

I’ll give you fast start tactics to creating your very own report and some of these tactics will literally enable you to do this in 24 hours or less. Your report should have these characteristics:

i) Short and sweet, between 3-20 pages, not more
You’d want to hold the attention of your readers, so being too draggy will discourage that. And if they decide to close and read it another time, you can be 90% sure that never happens.

ii) Tightly themed around the topic you had decided on

iii) A great title
The title must convey strong emotion, benefits and command instant attention.

With that said, here’s a 2-step guideline to get you started in creating your report:

1. Create A Template

The easiest way to begin is by creating an outline, or standard template, which you can use for unlimited reports.

Begin your outline with an ‘Introduction’. It’s the best opportunity to introduce yourself and inform readers exactly what they can get out of the report.

The next step will be to either create a Table of Contents.

Make sure your chapter titles are descriptive and ‘attention grabbing’ too. This is a good way to ensure your ebooks get READ!

Finally, include a ‘final word’ or conclusion.

Here’s a simple format based on the above you can model on:

Introduction

Table Of Contents

Chapter One

Chapter Two

Chapter Three

Conclusion

2. Get content fast

This is the most tedious and for many, scary part. But don’t worry you’ll be filling your report with content in no time flat. The challenge would be to create or get relevant content fast.

You can get content related to what your market wants quickly by using what’s already available!

The following are 4 powerful techniques in generating instant report content:

- Compiling Offline News

Write a quick report or commentary on important issues related to your market that you’ve read offline. For example, a piece on search engine news in the tech section of your local newspaper, or a good magazine write-up in ‘Entrepreneurs’.

I’m NOT advocating ‘copying’ content; instead use them as a guide or framework for a commentary in your own words.

A quick way to use this method: Look at various recent magazines of the same niche and grab ideas off them. Try doing this at your local library where it’s quiet and relaxing. To do something of this nature online, you can visit news site of your targeted market. For instance, try www.internetnews.com for IT niche market.

- Outsourcing

Another way to create content is simply to outsource it, be it free or paid.

A popular method to create products used by many ‘writers’ would be to engage ‘ghostwriters’. Ghostwriters are behind-the-scenes writers who will create a product (book, article, etc.) for you for a fee.

The advantage is you retain the copyright and get to put your name on the finished product as if it’s your own – becoming an instant writer in this way.

While I’m not sure you’d want to use this approach for reports, it’s an option you can consider. Try looking for quality ‘ghostwriters’ at www.elance.com and www.guru.com.

A much ‘cheaper’ method of outsourcing your writing is by Joint Ventures.

This is a commonly used approach to creating reports on the fly. Send a polite email to experts asking for help and contribution. This can be in the forms of short interviews with these experts.

Or co-author with an expert and give them a promotion in the report as well. This will need some ironing out but the advantages are obvious, especially if the people you approach are famous. You get an instant boost to your business and name.

Not all will reply and help you out.

- Forums

This resource is a fast way of getting contributing writers for your report. Post a request in your favorite forums. You’ll be surprised at the positive responses received. The respond rate will increase if the forums are active and highly participated.

Offer people an attractive incentive to help you. This could be anything from a link to their website or valuable bonus (products, resale packages, free ads, etc.).

- Public Domain Information

Public domain information can be classified as copyright-free works that is available for the public to grab and use. This includes text, books, images, music, etc. They may fall into either of these categories:

i. Information and figures from the government and it’s agencies

ii. Publicly available materials donated by writers and contributors, or

iii. Works which becomes public information due to loss of copyrights

In general works that are created before 1923 is in the public domain now. Those created between 1924 and 1963 is in the public domain unless the copyright was renewed (and mostly they’re not renewed).

How can you create mini ebooks using public domain?

You can simply modify and re-compile them into your own! Some creativity and planning may be required here, but anything you modify from the public domain automatically gives you a copyright on the modified version (with enough modications), lasting 50 years after your death.

The easiest way to find public domain information is to type in ‘public domain’ as search terms into any search engine.

Or try “Project Gutenberg” which is an amazing archive of thousands public domain books you can grab instantly at www.gutenberg.org.
